An Introduction to the Physiotherapy Management of Female Pelvic Pain

• To assist participants to understand basic anatomy relevant to female pelvic pain and use appropriate terminology.
• To introduce evidence-based information on pelvic floor examination and assessment of female pelvic pain for physiotherapists.
• To enable participants to use simple assessment and treatment procedures in advising/treating female pelvic pain.

On completion of this course participants should be able to:

• Use their knowledge to identify and understand female pelvic anatomy and pelvic pain conditions.
• Complete an assessment of a female patient with pelvic pain.
• Follow correct consent process for vaginal assessment of pelvic floor muscles and patients with pelvic pain.
• Perform a vaginal pelvic floor muscle examination relevant to a patient with pelvic pain in a safe, professional manner.
• Formulate an effective management plan for treatment of female pelvic pain.
